Last evolution... some changes
The original concept and prototype has changed due to various aspects, but mainly security and complexity reasons. Here is the idea for the last evolution...
And below the 'real' pictures ... next to Pablo to get a realistic idea of the measurements.
All final parts before being put together:
Below the 3 steps to put all pieces together:
Once put together, Denis and I paddled around at beautiful sunset and tested first without the sail...
A few days later... with the sail
It is fantastic fun! Thanks so much to Denis and Iseult... for their hard work, patience, time but overall their friendship!
Now winterbreak, time for final touch and paintings for a 'final protoype' and great celebrations and hours of sailing starting in springtime!
Voici les changements principaux;
English version below:
We did it!
Sunday afternoon, a little wind (not really enough, but good to test anyway), a beautiful sunset, warm water and above all loads of fun... Thanks to Denis and Iseult, Hervé and Jules, Alex and our two boys, who were all present...
First Denis:
Then handover:
And Hervé taught us how to manage to capsize it with very little wind and set it up again....easily!
The "Seb's Toy" works, it is fantastic fun! It just needs some more little changes which we should be able to manage in the next days... and then have some more wind to have 'crazy sensations!
I'll keep you all posted!
The flying seat...
Denis managed to create a marvelous seat - it rolls as planned and is additionnally very comfortable. I need to have some backsupport as I am not the fittest taking into account 'belly muscles'...
The seat looks like this:
Voici le siège en grand plan:
Why flying seat ? When the seat is pushed back at the maximum, I will be 1m50 away from the hull and hanging over the water... if not head down IN the water ;o)
The finn needs to be finished too: the idea is to have the finn automated with the articulated arm.
I think we are close to the next Test ride...
After having cut the articulated arm, the 'albatros wing' is shaped... the sensation of flying over the water will be near to heaven! On this wing, the seat can actively be pushed up and rolled down to find the perfect balance while sailing: 2 little diabolo wheels will make the seat slide smoothly. The diabolo system is still to be built.
...a long silence...
I realize it's almost a month ago I did not update my blog...
This for 2 good reasons - first, we had our wedding party on the 5th of June, which was truly a fantastic and memorable event with family and friends. It took us several days, not to say weeks to recover and overcome emotionally... The second reason is that after having sailed and tested the Toy, Denis and I decided to make some changes to 'Seb's Toy' in order to simplify the sailing and amplify the sensations...
Another change, is that I will write in English now, as more and more people outside of France, seem to be interested in following the story of our prototype!
I think that the best way to have a good idea of the planned changes, is to show you some detailled pictures.
ENJOY and see below - feel free to comment, or come back with questions or suggestions in order to make our 'Seb's Toy' prototype evolve.
Picture nr 3 below- 'Seb's Toy' sailing from right to left:
In words :
The first and drastic change, is that the articulated arm has been cut at 3/5 and the 2/5 piece has been added as an extension starting on the hull. The entire articulated arm will turn around the axe on the hull, eliminating the complex situation of having to twist actively on the seat - now the twist will be induced automatically (see picture nr 3 above)
Second change is adding a fin (skeg) in order to minimize drifting and losing cap, especially when little wind.
